- LF or F8E1 on the display
Most likely causes, in order
Listed from the most common and cheapest to check, to the least common and most expensive. Work down the list — do not jump to the last item because it is the one that sounds serious.
- Water supply valves are not fully open
- Inlet screen on the fill hose is clogged with sediment
- Kinked or crushed fill hose
- Drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe, so water siphons out as fast as it fills
- Low household water pressure
Safe checks you can do
- Turn both hot and cold supply valves fully counter-clockwise.
- Shut the valves, disconnect the hoses, and rinse the mesh screens at the back of the washer.
- Straighten any kink in the fill hoses.
- Pull the drain hose out of the standpipe so it extends no more than 4.5 in (114 mm) inside.
- Open a nearby tap to confirm the house has normal pressure.
When to call a technician
Water flows well at the tap, screens are clean, and the washer still times out on fill.
Also call if you see or smell burning, if the breaker trips when the washer starts, or if water has reached any electrical part. Those are stop-now conditions, not check-it-later conditions.
