Whirlpool error codes

Codes confirmed in Whirlpool's published troubleshooting tables. Each page explains the meaning, the likely causes in order, and the checks you can do before calling anyone.

About Whirlpool

Whirlpool is part of Whirlpool Corporation, which also owns Maytag, Amana and KitchenAid. Models across these brands share platforms, so an error code defined on one brand often applies to the others. We are not affiliated with Whirlpool Corporation.

What every Whirlpool model page gives you

How to read a Whirlpool model number

A Whirlpool model number is a compact code, not a random string. The first letter tells you the appliance family, and the letter after it separates front load from top load. The digits encode the series and feature level, and the trailing letters and numbers are the colour and revision.

That last group is the one that matters when you go looking for a manual. The base number (for example WEF5727T) is what appears on a retailer page. The full number with its suffix is what the manufacturer's support site indexes. If a lookup tells you the model does not exist, you almost certainly left the suffix off.

Choosing between Whirlpool models

Within this range the real decision is capacity and configuration, not badge. A 2 cu ft unit and a 5.3 cu ft unit differ in who they suit far more than in reliability: the compact one fits a closet or an apartment stack, and the large one takes a king comforter without a second thought.
