Whirlpool WTW8000D Error Codes: Full List & Meanings
The Whirlpool WTW8000D display can show 12 distinct fault codes. 9 of them are things you can check yourself in a few minutes; 3 require a technician because they report an internal board or sensor failure.
Read this first: a code tells you what the machine detected, not what part to buy. Clear the code once, retry one cycle, and only then start diagnosing. Before opening any panel, unplug the washer and shut off the water.
You can check these yourself
| Code | What it means | First thing to check |
|---|---|---|
F5E2 | The lid lock will not engage. | Open the lid and check for any garment caught at the front edge or under the hinge. |
F5E3 | The lid lock will not release. | Take everything off the top of the washer — baskets, bottles, folded laundry. |
F6E2F6E3 | The user interface panel cannot talk to the main control board. | Unplug the washer, or switch the breaker off. |
F6E3F6E2 | Same communication failure as F6E2 — the UI and main control board are out of sync. | Cut power at the breaker for 5 minutes. |
F8E1LF | The washer is taking too long to fill. | Turn both hot and cold supply valves fully counter-clockwise. |
F8E6 | The lid was left open. | Close the lid fully and press POWER to clear the display. |
F9E1dr / drn | The washer is taking too long to drain. | Straighten the drain hose and check it is not pinched behind the washer. |
LFF8E1 | Long Fill. | Open both supply valves all the way. |
drdrn / F9E1 | Drain problem — the washer cannot empty the drum in the time allowed. | Unplug the washer first. |
These need a technician
| Code | What it means | Why it is not DIY |
|---|---|---|
F1E1 | The main control board (ACU) reported an internal fault. | The code returns after one power cycle. This is a board-level fault with no user-serviceable part. |
F2E5 | The user interface panel and the main control board do not match. | Always. This code means a part mismatch inside the machine. |
F3E1 | The washer cannot read the water level. | The code returns after one rinse cycle. The pressure sensor path is internal. |
How to clear a code
- Write the code down before you touch anything — it clears on the next start.
- Press POWER once. This usually clears the display and exits the cycle.
- For a communication code, unplug the washer or switch the breaker off for a full five minutes. The boards reset on power-up.
- Run one short cycle. If the code returns, it is a real fault and not a glitch.
- If it returns a second time, stop cycling power and read the code page below.
